What if we tell you that water is a chemical? In fact, all things in nature are made of chemicals. They are everywhere and are part of our lives.

Perhaps, it is the synthetic chemicals that are bothersome, but there are many things in nature that are irritating or toxic; some can even be lethal to humans. Yet, there are things that are purified bring more benefits.

From a skin health perspective, there are actually quite many chemicals that are very beneficial for the skin.

For example, hyaluronic acid sounds like something you wouldn’t want to put on your skin. However, studies have shown that this chemical has been shown to hold moisture, improve hydration, prevent aging, treat wrinkles, and increase skin elasticity. This chemical can also help speed up wound healing and regulate inflammation levels.

Salicylic acid is known to be a good anti-acne ingredient. It helps open up clogged pores, neutralizing bacteria, and allowing room for new cell growth.

Zinc oxide is a common ingredient used in sunscreen. Zinc oxide is the only active sunscreen ingredient that protects the skin from UVB, long-wave UVA, and short-wave UVA radiation.

Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that improves reduces hyperpigmentation and inflammation.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHs) are fruit acids that are naturally found in fruit and milk sugars. These types of chemicals are used to smooth out the surface of the skin by eliminating wrinkles and fine lines. It also clears out the pores and evens out the overall texture of the skin. Some commonly used AHAs are glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and mandelic acid, which are all chemicals!

The list just goes on, so the most important question should be whether the chemical is beneficial or harmful.

As scientists, we constantly evaluate the pros and cons of chemicals including those that are natural and organic. All ingredients must go through screening processes and only those that are safe and with health benefits are used. ✅✅✅

To us, “chemical-free” does not make much sense. 🤪
